Of Retro and Vintage, True and Fake, in the World of Digital Photo

Tue, May 26, 2015   02:56 PM No Comments

Designed as retro. Styled as retro. Controlled as retro. Gripped as retro. Vintage. All-out vintage. The newest, poshest digital camera looking like a one-dollar Kodak point-and-shoot, a contemporary of pin-up posters, Ford T or, at least, Elvis and Woodstock festivals. What is a point in cameras pretending to be parts of equipment in World War II, placed among iPhones and hi-tech gadgets, over the other signs of modern time? Is it completely nostalgic, or have some more practical reasons behind? Let us discuss this matter in some details.

Handy Backup

The key problem of this approach can emerge when some user needs to restore a bit of personal time-sensitive data, for example, a project, a document or a script. Using alternative tools to backup time sensitive data and restore it individually gives a user freedom of actions.

Versioned Backup and Off-Site Storage vs. “Encrypted” Viruses

Versioned Backup and Off-Site Storage vs. “Encrypted” VirusesThe bum of viruses occluding your personal data under the secret password is the fact of modern days. These viruses can be not only annoying but also can bring some destructible power to your comfort, finances or business.

Yeah, when you turn your computer on and suddenly get a message like “All your important files are encrypted! Send the $$$$ to some account, and only then you can remove the encryption!”, it is completely outrageous.

But in modern times a camera with Wi-Fi looks not like a strategic marketing move, too. It seems strange as mobile phones equipped by Wi-Fi modules, for example, were true hit of a time when these units appeared. Ten years ago, a phrase like “Not to mention about this cell phone but IT HAS WI-FI!” can agitate a lot of users. But photographers dreaming about their perfect cameras are somewhat proof to this syndrome. By what?!

Choosing Data Storage Media for Backing up Personal Photo Archives

Fri, Mar 21, 2014   05:26 PM No Comments

Any digital-era photographer meet up many times a situation when all the standard media in photographer’s computer units are full and can receive no more precious graphic files. This is awful. And much more awful things emerge when you just spent two or three hours flushing your photos to CDs or DVDs and sometimes later you discover that all the backup session was lost due to technical problems. Into a photographer’s point-of-view (and the art of photography itself) any shoot is unique; when it lost, the moment of life can be lost, too, and for the photographer, these moments can be very long, as any shoot must be firstly taken and then processed… It is not to be mentioned material and financial losses in case of once-in-life travel or, especially, of the commercial photography!
