How to Backup Quickly and Effectively

Data is critical for most businesses. Emails, files, invoices, customer details, financial information…So it’s vital that we look after it and that means backing up regularly and effectively.

There are loads of different ways you can back up. You can back up to USB, to external hardware, to a NAS or tape drive… Some ways are more effective than others, and it really does depend on how much data you have. But what’st the best way? How can you be sure that your business critical information is safely backed up, waiting to be restored in the event of an emergency data loss?

Well the most reliable way by far, is an automated offsite solution that backs up to a schedule and is kept safely away from your business premises. Online backup services are designed specifically for this purpose and are fully managed by your provider meaning peace of mind for you.

So how does it work?

Well, in a nutshell you are replicating your data to a server on your provider’s premises using an encrypted remote internet connection. This server would usually be in a data centre containing racks and racks of servers, protected by high levels of security and fully maintained on your behalf.

It means that if there is some sort of disaster at your offices – fire, flood, theft or a serious hardware failure for example – then your data is safely backed up in the data centre and can be restored by your provider in no time, getting you back up and running in the shortest time possible.

And really, you need to do very little yourself at all. Automated online backup services are fully managed by your IT provider taking the burden away from you and your employees.
